Windows 11: AI Boosts Notepad, Paint, Snipping Tool

Microsoft is bringing the power of AI to everyday Windows applications. Windows Insiders are getting a sneak peek at new AI-powered features in Notepad, Paint, and Snipping Tool within Windows 11.

Notepad is gaining a “Write” feature, allowing users to generate or enhance text through AI prompts. This capability is readily accessible via a right-click menu, the Copilot menu, or the shortcut Ctrl + Q. However, it requires a Microsoft account and operates on an AI credits system.

Paint is getting a makeover with the introduction of a Sticker Generator. This feature lets users create custom stickers based on text descriptions. Paint also gains an Object Select Tool, powered by AI to isolate and edit specific elements within an image. New users will be greeted with a welcome experience showcasing these new features. Notably, these enhancements are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs and require a Microsoft account.

Snipping Tool gains an AI-powered “Perfect Screenshot” feature that intelligently resizes screenshots based on selected content. It also introduces a Color Picker, providing precise color selection with HEX, RGB, or HSL values. These features are available through the Snipping Tool toolbar or the Print Screen shortcut. Access to these features is limited to Copilot+ PCs.

These updates aim to enhance productivity and creativity by seamlessly integrating AI capabilities into everyday applications. While some features require specific hardware and a Microsoft account, they have the potential to revolutionize how users interact with these familiar applications. By blending AI with user-friendly interfaces, Microsoft aims to make the power of AI accessible and beneficial to a wider user base.
